What type of strawberry do I grow?

There are many types and varieties of strawberries out there from red strawberries to white strawberries, also ever bearing strawberries.

Here we will give some information on some of the varieties.

Alpine Strawberries

These plants produce very small berries which produce from around July through to September so a bit later than the normal variety.

Sweetheart Strawberries

These are your normal summer producing variety which you see in shops

Ever-bearing Strawberries

These varieties grow from mid summer (July) through to autumn. These varieties are  Mara Des Bois, Flamenco, and Anais

Where is the best to plant Strawberries

Strawberries like to be grown somewhere there is plenty of sun. They also like to be grown in soil that has had lots of organic matter and food in. You can grow strawberries in containers or the ground.

How do I plant strawberries?

To plant strawberries they need to be planted around 50cm apart from each other so they have room to grow.

How do I grow strawberries in containers?

Strawberries are well suited for growing in containers, hanging baskets, pots. This is because they are off the ground away from all pests like slugs, snails, mice. When planting in containers they are likely to dry out faster so make sure the top half of the compost it wet on hot days.

How often do I feed strawberry plants?

If you are wanting a great supply of strawberries in the summer they require a lot of looking after.

If you are growing strawberries in containers it is recommended to feed them every two weeks. If you are growing them in the soil use slow release food like chicken pellets and work it into the soil in spring,

If they are new plants keep them watered to get established.
