Why not grow your own garlic? You can try growing your own garlic at home or on the allotment. Planting garlic in winter and autumn (fall) is usually best.

Step by step guide on how to plant garlic

Step 1

First you need to purchase your garlic. You are best buying the garlic from the garden centers and not the supermarket as they will have been sprayed ect.

Step 2

Break up your garlic bulb into separate cloves. Carefully not damaging them.

Step 3

In a prepared bed plant your cloves in straight lines leaving around 30cm space in between them. Just leaving the tips showing when planting.

Step 4

Give your garlic a good water to settle them in.

Step 5

The final step is to cover your garlic with netting as birds like to pull the shoots out and eat the tops of them. Make it easy to take the netting off to keep weed free.
