Step 1

The word chitting means when you encourage the seed potatoes to start growing before planting them.

Step 2

You need to start chitting your potatoes around 6 weeks before planting them. This would be around February.

Step 3

Potatoes have eyes in them, this is where they sprout from. Ususally the more blunted side of the potato.

Step 4

Get some egg boxes and place your seed potatoes upright with the eyes on top to sprout from. Let your potatoes start chitting

Step 5

Your potatoes will be ready to plant after around 6 weeks or when they have chitted to around 2 -3 cm
