Here we will give you an easy step by step process on how to freeze your Jerusalem Artichoke so that you can use them at a later date and not waste any food.
- Wash your produce – The first step is to thoroughly wash your Jerusalem Artichokes. If they have been picked recently they will be dirty from being under the ground in the soil. You will certainly need to scrub them to make sure they are clean.
- Slice your Jerusalem Artichoke – Slice your artichokes into small pieces ready to boil
- Boil a pan of water – On the cooker get a pan of water to boiling.
- Boil your Jerusalem Artichoke – These will need boiling for around 5 minutes until they are tender.
- Place them in a bowl of ice water – Once they are cooked take them out of the hot boiling water and place them in a bowl of ice water for as long as you cooked them for. This will be for around 10 minutes.
- Place your Jerusalem Artichoke on greaseproof baking paper – Get a piece of greaseproof paper and put it on a baking tray. Arrange the Jerusalem Artichoke on the tray so they are not touching.
- Put the Jerusalem Artichoke in the freezer – Place your baking tray with the Jerusalem Artichoke on in the freezer for around 2 hours till they are frozen solid.
- Place the Jerusalem Artichoke in a zip lock bag – Take the carrots off the tray and put them in a zip lock bag. Write the date on the bag so you know when you cooked them. The reason why you do not put the Jerusalem Artichoke in the bag first is that they will all freeze as a lump.
- Use the Jerusalem Artichoke when needed – The frozen Jerusalem Artichoke will last for around a year. When you are ready to use them take out the amount you need and finish cooking them.
