- The idea was excellent – build & paint your own bug house. Unfortunately it was very flimsy, and some of the very thin wooden pieces had warped, making it very difficult to construct. It is held together with tiny slivers of wood, thinner than a matchstick, and at one stage both halves have to be joined by 8 of these sticks! I gave up and glued quite a lot of it. I think if it were put on the ground it would quickly fall to pieces. I glued 4 small flat pebbles to the base to keep it off the ground. It was bought for my 4 year old grandson, but he was only able to do the painting

- Have wanted on one of these for ages & my friend mentioned he’s just put his “hotel” up so time to order mine! Went for a more slimline version as I have a smaller garden. It arrived 24 hours after ordering (Covid19 lockdown) so put it straight out. Have moved it a few times as box doesn’t state where to put it so it needs to be South facing, sheltered from rain if possible and at least 2 metres high if you can. I’m now waiting for my guests to arrive!!

- Attractive design, and different from the many insect hotels you see. The materials used in the compartments look good quality, as is the casing on the first appearance. There is a helpful 3-star review showing how the facing is likely to lift off after wear, but this shouldn’t compromise its utility, and I bought fully inspecting to have a discolored, ‘naturalized’ product after some months. Clearly, if you are looking for a product to last many years this would need an investment in a good quality hardwood product instead.

- As you can see from some of the blocked holes, bees have already moved in, in the close up you can see the back end of one of them! I put this up end of May and a day later there were bees in and out, I must have got lucky with the timing and weather. Very pleased.

- I thought it best to wait before writing a review for this item. When it arrived it the back panel wasn’t secured properly, so I had to add some extra screws. This was addressed by a part refund by the seller.
- So after winter and now spring, the bee section is being well used to solitary bees. This is really exciting for me as I have purchased a couple of these with little or no success.
